Other points to consider

On this page we have collected together a number of other unconnected points that we feel we have perhaps not covered elsewhere.

Money is like oil in a car engine, it helps things run smoother, but with it  not everything immediately becomes possible.

We would advise against any scheme that expects you to pay up front for the help you will get, or on a fixed rate based on a set price or on time used by the mentor. This is really offering consultancy dressed up as mentoring.

Just about every mentor will expect to get something out of it. Some that have never done any mentoring before and don't ask for any reward are likely to quickly loose interest.

The successful mentor needs both wide ranging business experience and access to a wide range on very good opportunities and ideas, ahead of them being announced to the public.

Mentoring is not all success stories, see the pages is it right for you and past experiences

The only person who does not make any mistakes is the person who does not do anything. Therefore you know some things will go wrong. Although planning and risk assessments can work through many of these situations, some problems large and small will always get through. Business survival is often dependent on spotting these early and taking the right action. Few businesses fail through a single problem its usually as the result of a number together that cannot be then handled, and these arise because some are not spotted and acted upon early enough.

You can never plan for all events, especially events outside your control, economic condition changes and sudden weather problems. Having said this, a general business survival policy protects competent entrepreneurs against most of these to a degree.

In life, not everyone will succeed fully, but those that aim at the moon and get half way there are well above the rest sitting on the ground, enviously looking up.

A life of challenges successfully mastered is exciting, enjoyable, stimulating and fun. So much so that it can take over your life, and become addictive. In the same way as you could not explain the delights of chocolate to someone who had yet to taste it, explaining the effects of this life style is beyond what words alone can illuminate.

Planned right it is never a success or fail situation but a sliding scale of success. Even projects where things do not go as expected you would rarely lose everything, its just a small loss offset against other project with large profits.

If you believe in Santa Claus, that insurance companies will pay up on all valid claims, that banks are in business to help you or that corruption is not a major problem in every country, then perhaps you should not be considering any business activity. Accepting however that the world is not perfect, you can select those who you want to deal with, and minimise the risk from others. There are honour based societies made up of hundreds or thousands of businesses, organisations and clubs, and once they allow you in, you have a very large safe group you can confidently deal with with greatly reduced risk.

The best deal is always one where both sides feel it is good for them.

Finally on this page, the major reason why so many people are struggling with the mortgage, credit card bills and life in general is just because they have not spent a few minutes to look at where they want to go in life, made a few plans to achieve this and put them into practice.
